Fall Foliage in the Garden State

Fall in the Garden State, especially in the Highlands Region, creates a spectrum rivaling autumn foliage anywhere in the country.  Located on the northern tip of NJ Shore, Highlands is less than an hour from Summit and is the first stop on the New Jersey Shore.  Here you'll feel welcomed with old fashioned charm and friendly faces. Highlands has everything for a perfect weekend away from it all and the fall foliage is spectacular. The brilliant transformation from summer greens to vibrant hues of amber, orange and deep crimson can also be seen heading north from Summit into Morris and Bergen counties.  Ringwood State Park is near the New York border and offers a wide variety of intricate hiking trails and a many other outdoor activities. The NJ State Botanical Garden is also located here and the Skylands Mansion, built in 1891 and owned by Francis Lynde Stetson , who designed the landscape across the 96 acres it occupies. The extensive vistas of the garden and view of Ramapo Mountains which frame this botanical showplace are exquisite. Here you can wander through the elegance of formal gardens or along gentle paths winding through the woods.  Anywhere you choose to travel you are sure to be delighted by the beauty of fall.
