Relax and unwind and allow your soul to seek peace when you visit the Reeves Reed Arboretum in Summit. Just a short 10 minute walk from the DeBary Inn, the arboretum is located at 165 Hobart Ave in Summit. Reeves Reed Arboretum encompasses 13.5 acres of natural beauty, including historic and contemporary gardens and several acres of woodland forest. Whether you are interested in gardening, hiking, art, bird watching, or just want a place for quiet contemplation, the Arboretum has something for you.
Reeves Reed Arboretum is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Its estate and gardens represent design trends by prominent landscape architects of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During the Revolutionary period, the area was adjacent to the Old Sow Revolutionary War Cannon and the Signal Beacon atop Beacon Hill. Located on the property is a rebuilt signal station used to warn General Washington of imminent movement of the British over the Hudson River against his troops encampment in Morristown. The rebuilt signal station can be seen along the woodland Historic Trail at Reeves Reed Arboretum.
Every season there is something new in bloom and to explore at the arboretum. Summer is in full swing at the arboretum right now and the plants are adapting to warm, humid days. An online list of plants that are currently in bloom can be accessed on the arboretum website.The arboretum also boasts of many educational camps and afternoon classes for children ages 5-18. In addition, other fun events at the arboretum include: Concerts on the lawn, The Secret Tea Garden, and Goat Yoga are offered by online reservations.
